Dorgu, 20, is in his second season with Lecce following his €200,000 (£175,000) move from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland in 2022.
The Denmark international international, who has also linke with Liverpool, has quickly establishe himself as a regular at Lecce and has shown his versatility by playing on both flanks.
United have already opened talks with Lecce over a deal for Dorgu and report that a delegation from the Premier League side has travelled to Italy on Tuesday in order to hold face-to-face negotiations this week.
However, the report claims that Napoli are close to reaching their own agreement for Dorgu which would see the 20-year-old remain on loan at Lecce until the end of the season.
United, however, would be able to beat Napoli to a deal if they met Lecce’s €40 million (£33.8m) asking price.
Napoli, meanwhile, are also in advance negotiations with United to sign Alejandro Garnacho in the January transfer window.
The Serie A leaders had their opening offer rejecte by United last week as the Premier League club hold out for a figure closer to £70m.
Napoli also face competition from Chelsea for Garnacho, and the two agents representing the Argentina international were at Stamford Bridge on Monday night to watch Chelsea’s 3-1 victory over Wolves.
When asked directly about a potential move for Garnacho, Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, said on Saturday evening: ‘We are making some assessments, he is an important player, but he is not ours.
‘We must not get carrie away even if we know that an important player has left, a top player as the manager define him and therefore the expectations are high. But we will do something on Napoli’s terms.’
